Over the past week, in writing class we have been watching TEDx videos mainly about people who express themselves in what they do. As a teenager, it is sometimes hard to not express ourselves but equally hard to express ourselves. As we get older we realize that we don't just have to express ourselves in words, but in art, writing, sports, reading, learning, and other things we do everyday. My older sister, Alyssa (who is seventeen), likes to read and draw art; she usually reads books she can relate to and art that makes her, and the people who see it, happy. She is expressing herself in this way, although not fairly obvious to most people. She is expressing that she wants to be able to relate to people and things in all the ways she can and that she wants to make people happy. I just turned thirteen about a month ago, but even before I became a teenager I learned to express myself without having to use words. I learned to express myself in learning, playing sports, writing, and sometimes reading. In learning I express that I am committed and passionate about things I love, this is also shown when I play sports such as soccer. In reading I, sadly, express that I am a geek because I usually only read comic books and "Star Trek" books. I express my imaginative and creative, sometimes silly, side of myself in writing. So, Teenagers, and people in general, always find a way to express themselves wether it is writing, drawing, playing sports, reading, or whatever, people will always be able to express themselves.
On Friday, we saw a "Ted Talks" about a 13-year-old boy who was taken out of school because his parents thought school "killed" creativity and motivation in children. Today we say a "Ted Talks" about a 20-something-year-old man who makes his living beat-boxing in the street. After the beat-boxing "Ted Talks" are teacher asked us to write on a flashcards what we thought the relationship is between the two "Ted Talks" we saw. Well, although they don't seem related "upfront", after some thought they are really similar. You see, the toe guys talked or showed how they can use their talents and creativity to making a living. They also showed a lot of passion and happiness in what they were doing and what they thought was right for them. I, personally, loved talking about this because, even though I know school is very important, I know that maybe I can pursue something creative and fun when I grow up.
Cecil was born on December 7, 2000 and was (and is) raised by loving parents of Hispanic origins, but with many European cultures from her father's side. Cecil has been currently attending St. John Eudes School since Fifth Grade; before St. John Eudes, Cecil attended St. Catherine of Siena from Pre-School to Fourth Grade. Cecil is a great fan of soccer and a lover of learning, both some of her greatest passions. Learning, to her, is a great way to be able to feel like she can accomplish anything and know all the interesting facts of the world. Soccer, again to her, is a wonderful sport that is a great release of tension and pangs of everyday life. Another things that have the same effect as soccer include; singing, writing, reading, and (sadly) day dreaming.
